Reading this board and scanning the thread topics, there is alot of anger here

Somehow I doubt there would be any of this annimosity if it weren`t for the two major World/U.S. events the past 2.5 years

Yup.
We actually get along OK, and agree to disagree.

Its sort of like living in a sack of ferrets.

I don't see much hatred towards each other, though sometimes we get a bit too riled up. Nothing compared to what happens when my family starts talking politics.

I agree, there is certainly hatred here. I believe that the US is eventually headed for a brief but violent type of civil war beteween the hardest factions of the two major parties. It is inevitable. In fact it almost happened in November of 2000. The Democrats are so hungry for power and hate the President so much that if they lose another close election come November, they will do whatever they can to try and steal it. If they do that, I believe things will turn violent. Thankfully, given the dynamics of the the two groups in question, it would end quickly, but not without some bloodshed.

Come on Floyd...the left will only spill blood when it involves defenseless unborn children. They don't mess with the well-armed right wing.

Well, maybe just Floyd. Shotgun has a great point - I will never vote down the party line until they stop promoting the genocide of unborn infants.

A wise man once said that war is the continuation of politics by other means. If the vitriol in American politics continues to rise as it has, violence is inevitable.

As Clemenza wisely stated "there's a lot of bad blood" and war is sometimes the only way to alleviate it.

I could see it *(very unlikely)* when/if the US loses it's status as the world's superpower, but I think that would be more along the lines of a class warfare tension then necessarily a partisian one.

Lander is not an American citizen. I am surprised that you are so involved in our politics.

I've often thought that myself. There are parallels between the Tyler-Polk era of American history and the Clinton-GW Bush era. Only the names and scales are different.

I do not think it is hatred. Everyone in here interacts in all the other forums without a hint of anything that is said in this forum. Just strong opinions.

What kind of fantasy is that "bloodshed over the results"? Come on, lets not get out of hand. We all live by the principles of "I may hate what you say, but I will die defending your right to say it". There will be no election stealing or bloodshed. The country is divided as it is and neither party stays in power for long. Republicans in their first taste of complete control are out following Tom DeLay and scheming of ways to tilt the field deeply into their hands, but this country never reacts well to those efforts. We always like to churn our leaders, in good times and bad. It wasn't all that long ago that lots of Republicans thought Bush wasn't a good candidate, that his compassionate conservative side wasn't a good representative for the GOP. But that was all pushed aside because the party just wanted a winner and he was their brightest hope. That is what Kerry is, nothing more or less. Certainly the far left wants someone like Dean, the more moderates wanted a Lieberman or Clark. Kerry stands between that and has the experience and military service that improves his chances so everyone runs with it. That is how Americans do it when they are desperate for a winner, not bring up arms and try to steal elections!

It is arrogant to believe another civil war could not occur in the US. Also, nearly every major nation throughout history has gone through some form of military (or other) coup d'etat. It is further arrogance to belive that could not happen to the US.

Do you deny that the events in Florida in 2000 had the pssibility of turning violent had the US Supreme Court not ended the Florida Supreme Court's attempt to steal the election for Gore?

History shows that nearly all ideological disputes on the scale of the right versus the left we have now have ultimately turned violent.

There has always been a serious divide in American politics, but not since the Civil War has it been this vitriolic. I see it as a powder keg that could ignite if some uncertain events were to act as a spark.

I get bothered when babies, animals, crippled folks, homosexuals, blacks, women, or any other group who is perceived to be disadvantaged or oppressed (key word here = perceived) are given more rights than able-bodied straight white male adults. It's as though the government is telling me that my job on this earth is to be mother Theresa and that I should be ashamed if I want to pursue my own interests.

Let me support disadvantaged people around me as I see fit. If you use force on me to support people I don't want to, then eventually I will fight back and things may get ugly. If you say you are only being "good" because you want to steal my money for a good cause I say you need to rethink what being "good" means and don't be surprised if people who you want to steal from don't put up with it for very long.

No offense Floyd but this made me chuckle, honestly I don't think it's very realistic. I also think you're exagerating the hate issue, I mean everybody knows the parties don't particularily like each other but civil war. The most extreme example of this type of thing we've seen in recent time was the Repulican party's hate of Clinton and of course their continuos, blatent attacks against him, and we got past that.

After your 'Hope the Muslims kill you and your loved ones' response in another thread, I gotta say that, yup, you got yourself some hate.

Well, at least you guys will be well armed. Maybe shooting at each other will prove to be distracting enough that your leaders will stop sending boatloads of you off to shoot at people in countries who want nothing to do with your politics.

Unreal. You believe it will be leftists who start a civil war?? Please, Floyd, put down the bong and take a deep breath.

If a civil war starts in the US it will be the result of police/military action taken against mass protesters. Tear gas on Monday, bullets by Friday kinda thing. Your tireless leader, Mr. Bush, would like nothing more than a call-to-arms against any group of people, foreign or domestic, who stand in the way of his hegemonic plans. Democracy is nothing but a nuisance. I doubt he even knows how to spell the word 'diplomacy.'
